My name is Alexandria Izarraraz, but I go by Alex, I am a 32-year-old wife and mom of two boys, 13 and 7. I moved to Livermore when I was about 10 years old and have attended school within the Livermore school district from elementary through high school. I have served within the community as a caregiver at a dementia/alzheimer’s facility for two years through the pandemic. Currently, I am attending Grand Canyon University, I am earning my bachelor’s degree in Christian Studies, and planning to continue to complete a master's and a doctorate. I am also currently writing a book, a daily devotional that will one day be published. My strongest credential is that I am a responsible parent who desires the best academic education for my children, opening substantial opportunities for their future.
My two boys have been in this district since my oldest was in kindergarten. As the years have gone by I have seen the changes within their school as well as this district. Two years ago, covid hit. At first, I was very cautious about it, but after seeing more and more data released, I realized that I could no longer follow the opinions of others. I had to do my research and form thoughts and opinions on the matter. I saw the divisiveness and political propaganda spread around our country and in our cities and schools. Our children were being treated like pawns, and the more and more I learned, the more frustrated I got.
Parents began speaking at school board meetings, but I sat back and did nothing, but complain about what was going on. It was time to speak up! God gave me the courage to stand up, speak up and fight with other parents on behalf of those who could not or would not fight. I believe it is important to listen to others yet stand firm on convictions while not being influenced by popular views. I will stand firm! With my feet firmly planted on a knowledge of God, I will consider every opinion and decision. I plan to go into every meeting always putting our children and parents first. They deserve a voice. They deserve to be heard. Politics have divided our country, state, and even our school board. Politics should no longer dictate school policy.
I am running to give a voice to those parents who felt like they went unheard. I want to bring solutions. I want to listen to parents, from both sides of the coin, and help make a change in this district. I want to encourage parents to get involved in their children's education, as well as involvement in the district. Though I may not have much political experience, I am a mom. A mom who has seen her children suffer these past two years, and I am willing to be a voice for change for parents and children. I am running to help make lasting change in our district and bring back the necessary educational standard for a successful future.
2022
I want to promote and encourage parental responsibility in their children's education as well as encourage parents to be involved in the district's board meeting. Parents need to be active at board meetings and learn the ins and outs of the district and what is going on with their children's education.
Families should be allowed to decide what is right for their children in regard to masks and vaccines. Every family should not be forced into decisions that are made by everyday changing science.
Politics should not be a factor in school policies/decisions. Every policy/decision should be backed up by science and data. Politics have divided our district and the gap needs to be closed. Policies need to be made by discussion and listening to our parents and teachers.
Children are suffering. California’s math and reading levels are dropping all over the state. We need to bring back the fundamentals of common subjects that help children be successful.
